After graduating from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1987, Karen's career began with the Gilston Agency as an assistant in the Payroll Deduction Department. She then transitioned into the life, disability and individual health markets. Karen then became the Commission Coordinator, which entailed processing and paying commissions as well as the bookkeeping functions for the agency.
In 1998, Karen was promoted to the Assistant Vice President of Personnel and again in 2008 as Assistant VP of Operations. Her position included supervising the payment of agent commissions, processing employee payroll, overseeing bookkeeping, the agency's finances and day-to-day operations. In 2012, Karen was promoted to Chief Financial Officer.
